We work well with other professionals (Attorneys and Accountants).  We do not practice in other areas of law.  We have no interest in taking away a client.  Our goal is to work with you to maximize your client’s opportunity as a result of the Tax Whistleblower Reward Program.  We have found that most tax whistleblower cases are from CEOs/CFOs who initially contact you, their trusted advisor.

There are others who may contact you for advice.  For example, if you are an employment lawyer representing a client who has been wrongfully terminated (particularly persons working in the accounting or tax function of a company), that person may have information about their former employer’s tax issues.  We can help you determine if that client could also have a valid claim to submit to the IRS as part of the Tax Whistleblower Reward Program.

Alternatively, if you are any other kind of non-tax lawyer and come across a person with information about a tax underpayment, we can work out a referral arrangement as allowed by law and the rules of ethics.

There are three types of Referrals:
  1. Best Interest of Client – No Involvement
  2. Best Interest of Client – Monitor and Assist
  3. Best Interest of Client – Work as Co-Counsel

In all Types, whether an attorney or an accountant, we provide standard compensation to all referring attorneys and law firms as provided for within the guidelines of lawyer-to-lawyer referrals.  As to accountants, we are more than willing to engage you to assist us in putting the case together including gathering the facts and researching the law.

Best Interest of Client – No Involvement

There are many reasons why you should refer a case to the S&P Law Firm, LLC.  Most other attorneys handling tax whistleblower cases will refer to themselves as “experienced tax attorneys.”  However, the former IRS attorneys at S&P Law Firm, LLC truly are the experienced tax attorneys.  They have worked for the IRS for years handling the very same types of transactions/cases about which your client has information.  Their years of tax litigation experience will be put to work identifying the tax underpayment and preparing the best possible submission of the tax whistleblower case to the IRS.  Our attorneys have litigated numerous tax cases on behalf of the IRS; they are admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court and will, to the extent the client desires, appeal the ultimate reward as determined by the IRS before the U.S. Tax Court at no additional fee.  (We know of no other attorneys willing to do this.)

The goal of the S&P Law Firm, LLC in working with a client is to submit the highest quality case to the IRS so as to maximize the reward (15% - 30%).  The highest quality submission is based upon the attorney’s background of working with the IRS and the administrative cases put together by the IRS for purposes of supporting its examination.  These attorneys, as the case will dictate, will mimic that IRS administrative file and/or develop an audit plan for the IRS so that it may complete its examination as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Best Interest of Client – Monitor and Assist

To the extent that your client wishes that you stay involved, we would welcome such involvement.  You have likely spent years developing a trusted relationship with your client.  He/she is comfortable with you and looks to you for advice.  We will be happy to meet with you so that you may reach a comfort level with us.  We will work with your client through you, if that is what your client wishes.  Perhaps your client wishes that you simply monitor the case as it develops.  We will be happy to keep you informed every step of the way.

Best Interest of Client – Work as Co-Counsel

Whether you are an attorney or an accountant, we welcome your assistance.  As lawyers, we are willing to work with you as co-counsel, dividing the duties as necessary so as to strengthen the team and create the best case for the client.  If you are an accountant, although we cannot ethically split fees with you, we can divide the duties such that you are compensated for your continued involvement.

Please call and discuss the matter with us.  If you wish, we are willing to travel to meet with you so that you can reach a comfort level with our attorneys and our firm.
